How To Be A Good Doggie Sitter
64Being a Dog Sitter is Fun. I'd Love You to Meet the Doggie Children!
These four beautiful golden doodles you see to the right are Rich and Rene's doggie children and I am their doggie sitter for the next five days.
I am also Rich and Rene's next door neighbor and have watched them go through some difficult times within the past two years. Their personal challenges are mostly behind them now and they are out celebrating on a much needed and deserved vacation.
To help my neighbors out, I have offered to be their children's doggie sitter so they can have peace of mind that comes from knowing that their doggie children are being cared for by a trusted neighbor. And who, in their right mind, wouldn't want to play with these golden doodle gems!
The exercise I get from dog sitting keeps me in good physical shape. Playing ball, chase and tag, and building forts out in the fresh air does me wonders and I'm sure for Macy, Ryley, Brodie, and Finni too! These pictures were taken after our second afternoon together. Do these dogs look happy and content or what!
My days of dog sitting are sheer delight. Even Brodie the problem child is on best behavior. Just like we humans like company now and then, so too do these delightful animals love when their dog sitter comes to pay a visit. I know they love me and I love them.
I must go now. Doggie breakfast is over and it's time for the dog sitter to go let them doggies out! Be right back!
Back to the drawing board! The doggie children are tuckered out from play, their hair has been combed, treats given out, hugs, beds made and all four doggie children are in taking a nap for their Auntie Dottie, the dog sitter. Good doggies!
Other Things You Can Do As a Responsible Dog Sitter
Being a good dog sitter can mean much more than providing a dog with food and water. Here are a few things you can do while their guardian's are away on vacation:
1. Know the dogs environment and give them plenty of quality time and exercise.
2. Maintain their regular diet and routine and keep doggies safe.
3. Give them plenty of attention while their family is away. Talk to them often and hug them to let them know they are loved.
4. You can bring in the newspaper and mail so potential burglars don't know the house is unoccupied.
5. You can water plants in the summer or shovel snow from the steps before it freezes up in the winter so you or the dogs do not get hurt.
6. You can groom the dogs and they love to have their bellies patted!
7. Know how to tell if a dog needs veterinary attention.
8. Clean up the yard, you know what I mean!
9. Keep the house in better condition than you found it in!
10. Be a good dog sitter and have fun!

Hi Dottie, me new too. I always thot Hub is just to bookmark sites we like. Though I am here for 4 months but notice my hub is pretty empty . Until today, I receive a comment from Lgali then I realised that hey , we can communicate with people we do not know. So now I am moving from page to page to make friends with lovely people like yourself. Tq
Hi Dottie,
What a great hub! I am staying with a friend here in LA and one of my tasks is to walk Misha, a coyote/German Shepherd mix. We go on long walks and I always clean up the mess.
It's inspiring to see how many people share your love of dogs!
I was told when you meet a new dog, never stare. Blink a lot and never raise your hand over the dog's head. Bend down and let him sniff you.
I look forward to reading all of your hubs!
Hi dottie, how are you with your doggie sitting nowadays? LOL Are you teaching them to sing with Christmas carols? Wuf wuf wuf :) hehe hope you are enjoying it!
Hi Dottie, goodness gracious. Good thing your ear is still intact. I so appreciate the fact that you are so kind enough not to make me feel uncomfortable with my confession. LOL Thank you my Taurean sis :)
Hi sis Dottie, it took me a long time to click on this hub because I would feel odd and different from everyone else. I have a confession to make. I'm scared of dogs! (hides face in the hands). They are cute and adorable and I can see how they can be man's best friend. And I know I am a loony but can I just adore them from a few feet away? LOL Now this is something I have to overcome. But reading your hub, I see you had all the love and care treating your neighbor's pets. You are such a dear! :)
Nice hub. Very cute dogs! Gotta love dogs. Sometimes I get mad at my black lab, but I can't stay mad at her... too sweet! Man's best friend!
Well done Dottie, thanks to you, your neighbors can have a great time. Cheers :)
HI Dotti1... ITS A FINE MOVE BY YOU TO LOOK AFTER 'MAN'S BEST FREIND' . ENJOYED READING THIS HUB. THE PICTS ARE AWESOME .
This was such a fun read -- not to mention the great photos and videos. Dog sitting sounds like it's challenging but so much fun. I think I'll change jobs.
I was thinking Dottie, what a beautiful way of making money looking after dogs! or any pets for that matter and proberly one of the best jobs in the world!
Now this is a cute hub. I just love the pictures ...Mr Finnigan looks like my cody ...now you know why my name is gjcody. I lost Cody a couple of years ago ..but I know she is somewhere over that rainbow. Thanks for sharing ..I enjoyed your hub. My best to you!
AWWW, So cuteee
Hi, Dottie :) Your dogs look so cute and i can tell they are in the best hands possible!
I'm assuming after this hub, your now fully booked with lots of people wanting you to doggy sit for them!:)
Dottie1! My Dad used to say that you can find out what a person is really like when you look at how they treat their pets. Well my dear I would say that you passed with flying colors. My Dad was seldom wrong and have a look at that intricate pole... 100% score... it can't get better than that.
regards Zsuzsy
I love your videos on youtube of your family doggy sitting. Great pictures of your doggy friends too. I used to walk my siberian husky for years, so I know what it takes to take care of a dog, they are like children really :). Great hub.
Thanks for the clarification. Seriously, I was going to nominate you to the National Dogsitter's Hall of Fame with a special citation for going above and beyond the call of doggie duty!
Your neighbours are so lucky to have you. We have two dogs and love them to bits - Harriett is the star in the photo & we also have Humphrey, a black labrador. So although unfortunately we do not have a dog sitter like you we do have a really wonderful boarding kennel where they can swim in the river, & run madly about in fields enjoying life.
Dottie! A really fun hub! I think you are an excellent doggie sitter. I'll be sure to call you the next time I need one, which will when it snows so you can shovel my driveway too! But seriously...shovel snow? Doesn't that cost extra?
The dogs look great and like they are having a fine time. Great hub!
Great Hub Dottie! I think those cute poochies are in great hands!
While we were away my girlfriend's dog sitter emailed a "doggie update" every day with photos and a summary of what the sitter and the dogs did. It was way beyond the call of duty but earned her a big tip and insured that we'd be hiring her again.
Dottie,
You are amazing! Rene and I appreciate your care, love, and companionship that you provide for our canine children. Your e-mail and hub made our day! Please pass on a happy birthday to Tracey......we didn't know.
Thanks again to the best dog sitter ever!
Aw Dottie, they are soooo cute! I think they have an EXCELLENT sitter!! Those doggy kids will probably take mom and dad's being away a lot easier because of you.
Great hub, my friend. A big thumbs up.
Happy Birthday, Tracey!
You sound the perfect person to mind a friend's dogs.
good hub mom, the dogs look really cute too! :)
Dottie, it sounds like they're in good hands :)
