Christmas break is the peak time of year for family getaways but not everyone can or wants to go away at Christmas time. Certainly this year with college expenses and the rising economy, I will be spending my holidays at home roasting chestnuts on an open fire.

I was just in New Orleans right before Christmas. Great time of year, although it was a bit cold. Visited a number of places outside the French Quarter, it was a blast.
I prefer to play poker at home :)
There are a lot places to choose from. But for me, ill spend the christmas where hot spring is located. That would be amazing for me. Thanks for this post.

Asheville was gorgeous this year for Christmas, it snowed and we truly had a beautiful white Christmas. The Biltmore Estate was wonderful to visit during the holidays as well.
Have you ever done a zipline at night in Pigeon Forge. That would make for a great holiday adventure.
Vermont is nice at Christmas as well - if a little on the cool side.

My favorite spots are in New Orleans!
An amazing city. Great in Christmas.
Very nice suggestions... Unfortunately I'm a long way from the US! During Christmas I'll be back to see all the Top Spots here in your hub ;)
Great Hub! Congratulations.
Very well written hub .....
very much informative ......
Thank you very much for your great hub, for good advice, good wishes and support. Thanks for sharing your experience with all of us.
I'm already planning how we will spend Christmas this year, esp with our 5 year old granddughter, and Disney seems perfect. Thanks for the ideas and suggestions.
The places and you've mentioned are great! I would love to go there sometimes if time and budget would permit me. specially in Las Vegas. Loved the pictures. Have an awesome new year!
Visiting local areas during the Christmas season is always a great option for the financially strapped traveler. Thanks for all the lovely picturesa and tips. I have never been much of a Las Vegas fan because the person I went with was kind of a jerk, so it might be fun to go up there around Christmas. I love light displays and just looking at these.
Was just thinking of where to go during this xmas. Thanks for the great information.
I'm gonna knock on your door, ring on your bell, tap on your window too
If you don't come out tonight when the moon is so bright, I'm gonna knock and ring and tap until you do
Actually, that's not true, I'm going to bed now. You missed your chance, hanging out Stu. Hmph!
No beep? How can I leave a message? I'll have to call back later, I guess.
Yes, Dottie, the more the merrier....do they have any organs to sell?
Hey!! $150,000 per slice?? That's great! We can take a bunch of trips. We can take a third world country.
Dottie: The photos are so tempting- makes one want to hop on a plane and travel but this year I am staying home and roasting marshmellows with my sweetie. I prefer to save the money and travel when its less expensive.
Fun hub!
Hi Dottie,
Great ideas! Christmas is my favorite time of year, but I've always stayed home for the holiday with my family. If I ever do any travelling though these would be some good places to consider. Vegas for Christmas? I would TOTALLY be there. Nice hub!

This is the link that you sent me when I was looking to sell my liver and teeth. I believe they have a leasing option - sweet, best of both worlds.
Well, I know that livers were fetching top dollar last year, not sure what the market's like this time around. We'll have to research it.
I will let u know..
thanks for your wish Iwill buy my ist lottery today
Actually, Dottie, I would like to keep my remaining organs, so if you wouldn't mind, that would be great.
sure i will just needs to win a lottery
i love vegas too
Yes, let's go to Vegas! Oh wait, I need a sugardaddy to pay for it first - know any?
Ah, Dottie. Now I want to go away. Not to the theme parks - my kids and grandson are grown and I hate crowds, although before I die I AM going to Vegas. It's not so far from my beloved travel destination of Arizona, so one of these times maybe I can combine them. It's pretty hard to beat free limo service to an AZ casino, though.
Great hub, Dottie!
The places are really interesting... For addtional information: http://www.travelguidesdirectory.com/
LOL great to see you around up and about. :) LOL
Hi dottie, I am finally able to link your hub in my ripplemaker blog. :) Thanks for this useful information. Now how I wish I could go to these places too. LOL maybe someday. By the way, if you have time for a visit to my blog, kindly check if the link works. Sometimes it does in mine and sometimes it doesn't. weird. :) Thanks so much.
When I was 20, my father didn't want to travel back the 8 hours to the family Christmas. Instead, he asked me where I wanted to go. I announced St. Augustine, Florida because I had never been to the first European settlement. As a bonus, he took me to Disney World. I had so much fun, though I would never go on Christmas Day again to Disney. The shortest line was a 3 hour wait.
Great article.
Very good ideas, all the places look really nice. I am sure the children would love a Disney visit for Christmas and my grandma would go for a Vegas splash... Me? I like to take Christmas breaks just before or after Christmas, I like to spend Christmas at home warming up by the fire and receiving friends.
Enjoy your Christmas :)
great hub, thanks Dottie! I might try one of these places!
Dottie,
I love the background colors in your profile picture. Of course the pretty lady with the pretty smile is certainly attractive too. Don’t tell Barbie I said that:)
Well, I know now where my granddaughters would want to go – Walt Disney World. I’ll make sure I recommend that to mom and dad. I will choose The Smoky Mountains myself and not Dolly Wood, but you already knew that. But since we’ve already been there more times that our budget can take so Barbie could write her hub pages for the Smokies, I believe we’ll just be roasting chestnuts by an open fire. By the way the colors should be peak in the Smoky Mountains now.
Thank you so much for this beautiful hub. ~ eddie
Very nice Hub Dottie! Great alternative from all of the commercialism :)
Fantastic Hub Dottie. I also Love your New Avatar. You look so Preety and Beautiful.
These places look good enough to visit at anytime, although right now would be great as i cannot wait until christmas for a hoiday! but i guess ill have to!
ps..I like your new profile pic:) Its as pretty as a picture!:)
Hi Dottie,
Disneyworld sounds fun around Christmas. As a SoCal girl I always liked Disneyland during Christmas time.
Hi Dottie,
Christmas is something everyone in each and every part of the world looks forward to. Celebrations begin from mid November itself. The first signs are noticed when shopping malls take on a new look, gearing up for the season.
Switching on the radio, you are more likely to hear songs like "Santa Bring My Baby Back To Me," "Blue Christmas," etc. Over the past few years, the track recorded by cliff Richards "Christmas Time, Mistletoe And Wine," has been extremely popular.
The sheer excitement generated by these events makes it worth waiting for!
Cheers!
Hahaha Dottie, I love your smile amidst the autumn leaves. I just read your comment and I agree, it all begins with a thought! :) LOL By the way, I know I have told you this already but I will tell it again anyway, I loved your answer! :)
Hi Dottie, I love your new autumy avatar. :) I will be spending Christmas here at home (which I have been doing all my life LOL) But if plans will push through, the family might go somewhere this new year. Hmmmm, your hub made me think what if someday we could go visit you and Shirley too... But the places you mentioned looked very inviting! Great hub!
Would love to visit Smokey Mountains, they look awesome.
Hey Dottie! Great hub with great ideas. We did Christmas at Disney last year with my whole extended family. This year, we're going to my sister's place in Wilmington, NC. We all rotate destinations and usually have everyone at each other's homes each year. Maybe sometime, New Orleans. Love that city!
Good alternatives but we will be at home enjoying the season.
